History of #88 Serial number CA2S7L552182 was purchased new in Chicago in late 1965. The previous owner told me that it was purchased to race at Sebring but never made the show. While going through papers from the last owner, I found a set of RAC / FIA homoligation papers so I believe they back up his story. I was also told that it raced in the Chicago area in 1966 and 1967 but I have found no printed information to back it up. In 1968, Herb Stumpf from Minneapolis, MN purchased the car to ice race and rally. Herb did well in 1969 ice racing and put in a few wins up until he sold it to Don Roderick in the mid 70’s. Don was a natural driver and posted many, many wins on ice including the prestigious St. Paul Winter Carnival race (twice, I think). Over the years, Don also raced in mini stock and other local racing events where he again posted many wins. In 1985, Don put the car away and it sat until I purchased it in 1990. #88 car was restored over the 1990 winter and made its debut at Road America in the spring of 1991. Since 1991, #88 has continued its winning ways racing against vintage cars built to the spirit of the late 60’s and early 70’s. And sometimes it is even competitive against the new breed of high HP, win-at-all-cost “vintage cars”. # 88 was the culmination of years of daydreaming about building a professional quality racing MINI. A great big thanks to my wife for pushing me into converting these dreams into reality. |
